The Health Benefits of Ballroom Dance

Did you know that ballroom dance can have major physical and mental health benefits?

Ballroom dancing will develop your muscle strength.  You are constantly spinning, stepping, and even sometimes lifting your partner and this all contributes to more muscle strength in your legs, back, and core.  Ballroom dance can also be a great low impact activity that can improve bone strength and joint flexibility.  When learning ballroom dance you can gradually increase your exercise levels as you master more dances.  Ballroom dance also forces you to stretch and bend which increases flexibility.

So you might have already known that ballroom dance has many physical health benefits, but did you know that dancing also provides neurological and emotional benefits?  In a study published in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience it was concluded that ballroom dancing can help prevent the onset of dementia in elderly patients.  Group ballroom dance classes and parties connect you to people creating social connections and opportunities to develop new friendships.
